ASZ first new customer for nexuzhealth

After a public procurement procedure, the Algemeen Stedelijk Ziekenhuis of Aalst, Geraardsbergen and Wetteren has granted the purchase of an electronic patient dossier to nexuzhealth. The ASZ has chosen the Clinical Workstation (KWS), the EPD of nexuzhealth. In total, 250 physicians and approximately a thousand nurses and paramedics will use the software. After summer, nexuzhealth will start the implementation.

The ASZ is the twentieth hospital to start using the Clinical Workstation and the first since the start of nexuzhealth in December last year. “They combine smart, medical software with a customer-oriented approach mainly translated into service level agreements, a technical and functional follow-up by project managers and an actual project plan. This creates confidence for the future”, general director of the ASZ Sabine Siau says.

First automation of medical processes, followed by medicine management

Employees will actually start using the software for medical-administrative processes, such as patient identification, admission planning or appointment management. In a later stage the medical and care processes will follow. Ultimately, the ASZ will also digitalise its medication management with nexuzhealth. Only recently, the University Hospitals Leuven reached level 6 of the HIMSS-digitalisation guidelines for hospitals (EMRAM) with its KWS. This is the second highest level. In Belgium there are 2 hospitals with this level of maturity, and as such the highest level in the country.

Sharing information in a simpler way

The choice for nexuzhealth can create an additional advantage for the future. In December 2016, the ASZ has signed a charter with the Algemeen Ziekenhuis Sint-Blasius in Dendermonde and the Onze-Lieve-Vrouwziekenhuis in Aalst-Asse-Ninove, declaring their intent to establish a loco-regional hospital network, as described in Minister of Social Affairs and Public Health Maggie De Block’s vision note.

“The two partner hospitals have welcomed our choice for KWS”, dr. Steven Rimbaut, medical director of the ASZ says. “They are already working together with nexuzhealth. When the logo-regional network has been established, we will be able to simply link and we won’t have to work with so-called hubs or service-hatches for medical data within our network. For every patient there will be only one medical record in the nexuzhealth private cloud. This means that the information is always accurate and up-to-date, making a hospital network a real added value.”

Support for medical decisions

Nexuzhealth developed its EPD specifically tailored for Belgian healthcare and the specific needs of local hospitals. “With nexuzhealth we will continue to innovate for the ASZ and our other clients, e.g. with Clinical Decision Support-systems supporting medical decisions”, nexuzhealth CEO Gertie Delande concludes.
